The Taming of the Shrew: Southern Illinois University, 2000
For Shrew, director John Staniunas wanted a light airy summer production. I suggested a pastel pop up card based upon the drawings of Sebastian Serlio. We created two-dimensional set pieces representing Padua’s cityscape, architecture, drapery, trees and even Petruccio’s horses. These pieces came in from every direction including the flys, wings, traps and even popped up from the floor of the set. Only the steps and platform were three-dimensional. This is the ½” colored model with a composite of most of the set units that I cut up and made into a rendering for John after the show closed.
