Sweeney Todd: SIUC

The design for this production used the same device as Eugene Lee's original production--elevated side areas and an open flexible space in the center for Lovett's shop, the Barber's wagon and various crowd scenes. The director, Tim Fink, also wanted Sweeney to have access to the audience, so the orchestra was surrounded by a raked walkway that allowed intimate contact with the audience. The illustrated newspaper drop depicting a raging Sweeney served as our act curtian. It was torn down each night by Sweeney when he rose from the dead to tell his deadly tale.
