The Women of Troy: SIUC, 1995The most difficult problem for me to resolve was the appearance of Poseidon and Athena who provide the exposition. It struck me that I could abstract the gods from our modern setting by making them shadow puppets projected on a screen of parachute cloth which served as the women's tent. These characters magically appeared from the glowing campfire and their images rippled in the billowing parachute giving them an ephemeral quality. These costumes were made of tights, cardboard, ethafoam rod and erosion cloth, but were only seen in silhouette by the audience. |
